The Hamburg company Otto Robotics is working on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the logistics industry. The aim is to revolutionize the use of autonomous robots in warehousing and logistics and thus increase efficiency and speed in this area.

According to reports, Otto Robotics is already conducting tests with autonomous robots in cooperation with a large retailer in Germany. With the help of AI, the robots should be able to collect and sort customer orders in the warehouse. This means inventory is managed more effectively and delivery times can be reduced.

“We don’t just want to be an autonomous robotics company, but also an artificial intelligence company,” Otto Robotics founder and CEO Nikolas Engelhard told Tagesschau. “By integrating machine learning and artificial intelligence into our autonomous systems, we can improve the performance of our robots while reducing costs.”

Otto Robotics relies on a combination of 3D cameras, lidar sensors and other technological innovations to develop the autonomous robots. They should be able to independently avoid obstacles and master complex tasks.

For some time now, the logistics industry has been the focus of companies using AI and robotics to increase the efficiency and performance of their business processes. The corona pandemic has reinforced this trend, as many consumers are increasingly opting for online shopping and thus for fast delivery times.

“The demand for autonomous robots and artificial intelligence in the logistics industry will continue to grow,” said Engelhard. “By using autonomous robotics and artificial intelligence, we can reduce delivery times and offer our customers an even better service.”

However, integrating AI into the logistics industry is not without its challenges. Privacy and security play an important role here, as the robots are able to collect and process large amounts of data. The acceptance of the employees in the logistics industry towards the autonomous robots must also be taken into account.

“Integrating AI into the logistics industry requires a high level of trust and collaboration between humans and machines,” said Engelhard. “However, our goal is to develop the autonomous robots in such a way that they complement the employees in the logistics industry and make the work easier and more efficient.”
