It is clear that Wortfilter is one of the best-known ecommerce blogs in Germany, but that Tiktok uses it? Cool!
Well, the story is a bit different: Tiktok actually uses a legacy word filter. I would have thought the technology would be more advanced today, but after their research, Tagesschau, NDR and WDR found that Tiktok uses one and simply suppresses comments on predefined terms – without any hint. As was the case with the well-known eBay word filter (german: Wortfilter) 20 years ago – which gave this blog its name – terms are now simply sorted out, even if they are completely out of context, for example when the word “gay” is used.
Tiktok has acknowledged the use of the word filter and the resulting errors and announces a “thorough review”. You can be curious….
