ChatGPT – is on everyone’s lips. The possibilities are great, the areas of application are almost endless. Accordingly, I have already had a number of discussions about the fact that lawyers can also use it. A lawyer even had an application written by the AI. Everything is so easy now!
well now…. My legal test results with ChatGPT looked great at first glance, but (almost all) didn’t stand up to my closer examination. It was more or less the right thing to do, but in detail it was often simply wrong.
A lawyer from the USA has now had to feel this bitterly and thus exposed himself to the scorn and ridicule of the world, because he had asked the AI to research judgments and named these judgments in his brief without checking them. The stupid thing: Unfortunately, the judgments mentioned by the AI did not exist:
It could be even worse for the lawyer, because legal consequences are now being examined against him because he wanted to deceive the court with the non-existent judgments. So please use the AI only as a source of ideas, especially in legal matters, but don’t just rely on it.
Incidentally, GPT 4.0 is already a quantum leap ahead. She easily passed the bar exam:
But the same applies here: You are liable for what you write – not the AI. So always be careful…
